HALIFAX, NS – The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth today celebrated a $250,000 donation from Robert and Kathleen Richardson in support of the new John W. Lindsay YMCA facility.

Robert and Kathleen are making their gift in honour of Robert’s sister and brother-in law, Shirley and Stephen Clarke, whose steadfast influence during his own formative years he credits for his success, and his means, to support charitable projects such as the new YMCA facility.

“The new John W. Lindsay YMCA will be a true Centre of Community. It will attract people from all walks of life, across all ages and backgrounds,” says Robert Richardson. “Kathleen and I believe that the true power of this facility lies in the YMCA’s long-standing commitment to serving all members of the community – especially youth.”

The gift will help fund the Leadership Development & Community Meeting Room, which will serve children, youth, and the wider community in the new facility.

“The tribute Robert and Kathleen are making to Shirley and Stephen Clarke through their support of the facility will give youth increased opportunities,” explains Peter Doig, Chair of the YMCA Board of Directors. “They will be able to connect with others, develop themselves, and take advantage of mentorship, leadership, and volunteer opportunities.”

Robert is currently President of Compass Commercial Realty, Executive Vice-President of Killam Properties Inc. and Co-founder and CFO at Sustane Technologies Inc. He currently serves as a member on the YMCA Capital Campaign Cabinet, an honorary YMCA Trustee, and Chair of the YMCA Legacy Foundation. He has served on the Prime Client Group, a committee that has overseen the YMCA facility project for more than 10 years, and is on the Board of Governors for Dalhousie University.
