HALIFAX, NS – January 26, 2018 – After undergoing an extensive search for a new Chief Operating Officer, the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth announced that Lorrie Turnbull will fill the role.

Lorrie has a proven track record as a senior YMCA manager. Her start with the YMCA began in 1995, bringing with her a Bachelors of Physical Education from Acadia University, a Masters of Exercise Sciences from the University of Alberta, and in more recent years, a Masters Certificate in Project Management from Saint Mary’s University.

Throughout her 23 years with the Y, Lorrie has held many leadership roles including: General Manager, VP of Operations and Facility Development, Project Manager (John W. Lindsay YMCA) and most recently VP of Operations and Capital Development. Lorrie has worked on several YMCA facility refurbishment and capital renewal projects include: the improvement plans for the South Park YMCA facility; YMCA-HRM site plan amendment process; sale of YMCA site, and project/construction management selection processes for the new YMCA facility.

Lorrie is a member of the YMCA-Southwest Properties Facility Committee, representing the YMCA through the design process of the new John W. Lindsay YMCA building. Brian Posavad, CEO for the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth adds, “Her skills will be pivotal to the YMCAs focus on excellence, increase in capacity, and the opening of the new John W. Lindsay YMCA in 2019.”

Lorrie feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to develop through her many leadership roles and is excited to collaborate with her team to develop the strongest, most vibrant YMCA for Greater Halifax/Dartmouth.

About the new John W. Lindsay YMCA facility

With 70,000 square feet of new and contemporary health, wellness and community space, the John W. Lindsay YMCA will reside within a new mixed-use residential and commercial complex. Located on the corner of Sackville and South Park Streets in Halifax, it will include a large public atrium, social and program areas, a full aquatic centre, gymnasium, indoor track, a 2-level Wellness Centre, and a Child and Family Development Centre, that will include community program areas.
