Learn more about legacy giving
At the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth, we’ve been building stronger, healthier, more connected communities for more than 170 years.
But how do we ensure that impact continues for the next 170?
Legacy gifts, also known as planned gifts, are a powerful way to support the YMCA beyond your lifetime. They reflect a commitment to community and help ensure future generations continue to have access to the programs, spaces, and critical supports that define our YMCA.
A legacy gift is typically arranged today and realized in the future, often through a gift in your will known as a bequest. Making a legacy gift doesn’t affect your finances during your lifetime, and many of our legacy supporters are surprised at just how easy the process can be.
In addition to bequests, legacy gifts can also be made by naming the YMCA as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, RRSPs or RRIFs, or through gifts of appreciated securities. You may choose to direct your gift to a specific program or area of impact or allow it to support the YMCA’s greatest needs. The terms of your gift are flexible and may be adjusted over time if circumstances change.
Our Advancement team is always happy to work with you to ensure your gift reflects your values and the impact you hope to create for future generations.

A legacy gift is a meaningful way to show that you believe in the Y, in community, and in a future where everyone belongs.
