As a leading charity, the YMCA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This group of community volunteers provides vision, strategic leadership and stewardship for the Association. The YMCA Board of Directors meets regularly with an Annual General Meeting held every spring. We are extremely grateful to every member, past or present, of the YMCA’s Board of Directors.

Samantha Nixon

Samantha is a Coordinator with the Canadian Red Cross, supporting International Emergency Response through collaboration with the Government of Canada.

Samantha holds a Master’s of International Affairs from Carleton’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, and a B.A. from Acadia University. Samantha’s community experience ranges from responding to local emergencies as a volunteer Emergency Responder with the Canadian Red Cross, supporting mental health as a volunteer with the Grateful Wardrobe, and most recently representing Canadian youth as a member of the Global Youth Mobilization Design Lab. As a member of the YMCA Youth Advisory Committee since its creation in 2021, Samantha is passionate about supporting youth engagement in the community and helping to advance the YMCA’s work in mental health. Samantha believes in the YMCA’s vision of fostering a sense of belonging for all, and has particular interest in striving to create inclusive spaces. Samantha’s love for the Y was passed down from her Grandfather, an active member of the YMCA all his life, who inspired her to combine a love of community connection and wellness to make a positive impact.
