Membership Assistance

Thank you for considering the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth as part of your wellness journey! We are a charitable, community-based organization committed to helping grow in spirit, mind, and body.

We are dedicated to eliminating barriers to wellness and providing the opportunity for everyone to participate in YMCA programs and services. Our membership assistance program provides affordable access to our services and programs through a reduced cost of membership.

How can I apply for membership assistance?

– Membership assistance applications are processed in person at the John W. Lindsay YMCA front desk where one of our lead membership staff will be happy to help you!
 

What is the application process?

– Our application forms are available at our front desk. You can visit us in person to fill out this form and have your application processed on the spot!
– For some applications, proof of income document is required for viewing before the membership assistance can be finalized.
 

Do I qualify for membership assistance?

– Everyone is eligible to apply for our membership assistance program. Household net income and family size are considered for our assessments.
– Our assessment process allows us to determine membership rate that best fits your needs.

 

What should I bring with me for the application?

– A valid government-issued photo ID is required to be viewed for all visitors as part of our Child and Vulnerable People Safeguarding policies.
– A proof of income document is required to be viewed for applications over a certain percentage of discounts.
o We ask for proof of income documents from all income contributing adults in your household.
o It is best to bring this document with you when you visit us in person as this ensures your application can be processed without delay.
– A payment method of your choice (credit card or VOID cheque information) is necessary to start your membership after your application has been processed.
 

What counts as a valid proof of income document?

– Proof of income documents can be any official document that shows your current net income. These documents include tax forms, paystubs or income assistance cheques etc.
– Please note that we do not keep a copy of these documents for our records and ask that you do not send them over email for your privacy. Our team will look at the amounts on the form in person and will return them to you after your application is completed.
