Meet Our Trainers!
Tina DeRoo
Tina has a Masters in Kinesiology, specializing in sport and exercise psychology. She is a certified Personal Trainer and is certified to teach yoga and group fitness.
When not training and teaching at the Y, Tina can be found cycling or running around the city, teaching sport and exercise psychology at Dalhousie University, or consulting on mental performance through the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic.

Jenna Theberge
Certified by the American Council on Exercise in Personal Training, Jenna has been active in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years.
Jenna specializes in strength training, weight loss, and rehabilitation. With a background in competitive athletics, and bodybuilding, and trained as a certified nutrition coach she will be sure to help you meet your goals.
At the YMCA, Jenna also facilitates a rehabilitation program which focuses on training and improving the lives of our participants dealing with a wide variety of injuries or physical limitations. She is passionate about improving the physical and mental health, well-being, and overall quality of life of all her clients and participants.

Katie Veinot
Katie has a Bachelor of Recreation & Sports Studies with a minor in Business Management and is a certified ACE Personal Trainer with Fitness New Brunswick.
She currently works as a Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, and Group Fitness Instructor here at the Y. Katie teaches a Butz and Gutz class on Thursday evenings and works with all fitness levels in her classes and personal training sessions. She specializes in strength training, weight loss, rehabilitation, core strength, healthy meal options, bodybuilding shows, endurance, mobility, and stability training.
When not training and teaching at the Y, Katie can be found hiking with her husky Teva, coaching outside of the YMCA, relaxing with friends, trying new foods, and travelling to different places.

Rebekah Williams
Rebekah has a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Acadia University where she took place in the exercise and science training practicum.
She currently works as a Wellness Coach and a Personal Trainer here at the Y. Rebekah helps facilitate a rehabilitation program focusing on training individuals with a variety of physical limitations. As well as coaching a bootcamp in the evenings.
When not training at the Y, Rebekah can be found exploring the city, going on hikes or studying at her favourite coffee shops!
Grace Zima
Grace is a YMCA certified Personal Trainer with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She is passionate about helping individuals of all ages
She is currently working towards certifications in Sports Nutrition and HeartWise, which will allow her to provide even more specialized and effective support to her clients, including athletes seeking to enhance their performance and seniors working to maintain or enhance their quality of life.
Grace believes that regular exercise and healthy living can have a transformative effect on individuals, improving not just physical fitness but also mental clarity, mood, and overall quality of life. If you’re looking to improve your health and well-being, she would be more than happy to work with you to help you achieve your goals.
Rachell Alcivar
Rachell has a bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics and Nutrition. While completing her degree she worked as a Zumba instructor, and completed her certification as a YMCA Personal Trainer.
When not working and exercising at the Y, Rachell can be found working as a counsellor assistant for RRSS, putting her nutrition degree to work in the kitchen, and improving herself by taking sports nutrition related courses, as well as french language arts.
Brooke Schidowaka
Brooke Schidowaka is completing her Bachelor’s degree at Dalhousie University and has been involved in fitness and sports her whole life.
She currently works as a Personal Trainer, Wellness Coach and Group Fitness instructor here at the Y. Brooke’s favourite styles of training and compound lifting and resistance exercises as well as high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Brooke believes that individuals can not only improve their physical health through fitness but their mental health and self-confidence as well. She continues to grow her knowledge and certifications in the health and fitness industry.
When not training or teaching at the Y, Brooke is finishing up her Undergraduate degree and honour’s at Dalhousie in Law, Justice and Society. In her free time, she enjoys learning new fitness activities, spending time with family and friends, trying new coffee shops around the city, learning about new cultures through travelling and is an advocate about social justice issues within the criminal justice system.
