Community YMCA

Located in the heart of Halifax’s North End our Community YMCA engages and positively impacts hundreds of children, youth, and families. It’s where youth go to learn new skills, socialize with peers, and participate in meaningful activities that contribute to lasting personal and social change.

Community YMCA

The Community YMCA is more than just a building, it’s truly the centre of our community. Each of our programs is community-focused, with the goal to engage and build each individual member of the community. We invite you to visit the Community Y and explore our many programs and services.

Food Pantry

We wanted to support our community and help make a difference for those struggling with food insecurity in the North End of Halifax

Panthers Basketball

Panthers Basketball is an extensive YMCA basketball program for children and youth ages 5 to 16 who are interested in skills development, teamwork, and a recreational or competitive basketball program.

YMCA Day Camps

The YMCA Summer Day Camps are exciting environments for campers to meet new friends and participate in a variety of fun-filled activities.

Senior Snow Removal

YMCA Senior Snow Removal is a YMCA program – in partnership with the city of Halifax – for seniors and persons with disabilities which provides a subsidized snow removal service to create safe access. The YMCA pays all service fees directly to the contractor on behalf of program participants.

Y Mind

The Y Mind program is an innovative, youth informed, early intervention program that helps teens and young adults manage stress and anxiety. Y Mind helps young people cope with anxiety and improve their sense of well-being by introducing them to evidence-based tools and connecting them with others. 

Girls Open Gym

Our Girl's Gym is the perfect place to have fun and make new connections! Come out to the Community YMCA to shoot some hoops and practice your skills.

Community Y After School

The YMCA After School Program at our Community YMCA is from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Youth Leadership

The YMCA Community Action Network (YCAN) is one of Canada’s national youth service initiatives, part of the Canada Service Corps. This is for young adults aged 15 to 30.

Youth Transitions Program

YMCA Youth Transitions Program (YTP) is a free service focused on providing support to youth aged 13–19 who are facing barriers in their lives. These barriers could be related to school, employment, peers, family, housing or addictions. 

Child & Youth Programs

New friends, new skills, leadership development – you can find it all and more at your YMCA. Our child and youth programs are specifically designed to help kids be kids and to provide activities for the whole family.

Volunteer with us

There are lots of places to volunteer, so why not volunteer at a place that really matters. The Y is one of those rare places. When you join our volunteers, you will be part of a team that provides children, youth, and adults of all ages a sense of belonging in their community.

As a leading charity, the YMCA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This group of community volunteers provides vision, strategic leadership and stewardship for the Association.
